These are very rare $1 Nickel Half Rolls. They are stamped The Manhattan Company. A quick internet search showed this bank dates back to 1799!!! The Manhattan Company was a New York bank and holding company established on September 1, 1799. The company merged with Chase National Bank in 1955 to form the Chase Manhattan Bank. It is the oldest of the predecessor institutions that eventually formed the current JPMorgan Chase & Co.
These rolls are light brown in color with some of them being faded from storage. The ends are still tightly sealed. The contents of the rolls we have opened thus far have shown teens, twenties and thirties buffalo nickels. We would not be surprised if Liberty V or Shield Nickels were found in some of the rolls.
